The Covid-19 pandemic has undoubtedly impacted many businesses. However, not all businesses experienced a downturn—some managed to survive, and new businesses have even thrived. One industry that has endured and gained new popularity among the public is frozen food. As people were required to stay at home, they preferred food that could be stored for a longer period.
In this situation, Cireng Salju, produced by PT Bonju Indonesia Mas, became one of the public’s favorite choices. This product successfully attracted the attention of local snack enthusiasts in the modern era. With its appealing appearance, good packaging, and international quality standards, Cireng Salju can be enjoyed by all ages, blending traditional snacks with a modern twist.
“Alhamdulillah, the impact of Covid-19 has been a blessing for us, with a sales increase of up to 300%, an incredible figure,” explained the founder of PT Bonju Indonesia Mas, Najib Wahab Mauluddin, in South Tangerang City (June 26, 2020).
Najib views the sales surge as motivation to further enhance the flavor quality and introduce new flavor innovations. With an affordable price range of Rp20,000 to Rp25,000, Najib is confident that the product will be increasingly well-received by the public.
Najib hopes that the sales trend will continue. The new normal will shift consumer habits towards being more concerned with nutritious and healthy food. Nowadays, people are not focused on buying luxurious or expensive items but are more mindful of sustaining their lives by purchasing nutritious food and other essentials.
According to him, Cireng Salju has a different appearance than usual. Besides the pandemic, its nutritional content and taste have also contributed to the surge in demand for the snack.
The savory and crispy cireng, commonly known as Cireng Salju, is typically associated with its white color. However, it now has a different appearance that has sparked the curiosity of local food enthusiasts to try it. This Bandung snack is also claimed to contain activated carbon, which is known to have detoxifying benefits for the body and is good for improving digestion.
Najib added that the business world is evolving rapidly today. This growth makes it easier for individuals to start their own businesses without having to create or innovate new products, such as by becoming a distributor. Najib has taken advantage of this development to expand the distribution network across all regions of Indonesia.
“Currently, our distribution covers the entire country, from Sabang to Merauke,” he stated.
According to Najib, frozen food has many advantages. One of them is the ease of storage—it only needs to be kept in the refrigerator. This also facilitates the distribution of goods to consumers.
Cireng can be stored as frozen food, making it a convenient way to ensure we have a food supply on hand. Many people order frozen food delivery from various marketplaces, which is a simple way to shop from home, providing a sense of safety by just waiting for the delivery to arrive.
